Abstract: In June 2013, the Journal of Citation Reports published the new impact factor for 2012, as reported in the opposite page. All 4 international journals of paediatric dentistry included in the list have a score below 1: International Journal of Pediatric Dentistry (of the IAPD), 0.924; Pediatric Dentistry (the AAPD journal), 0.563; and our European Journal of Paediatric Dentistry (the official SIOI publication) scored 0.515. We wish to thank authors, readers, referees, the staff of our publisher – and especially Cristina Calchera for her continuous assistance – the great support of the Italian Society of Paediatric Dentistry (SIOI), which owns the journal, and the cooperation of our Editorial Board, particularly our Assistant Editor Bruna Della Grisa for her efforts to ensure the correct English terminology.
Working at the Editorial Board is not an easy task, and not all appointed succeed. With this issue we take note of the resignation of a new Assistant Editor after just a few months from his appointment. After a long period of stability, this year we assisted to several changes in the Editorial Board, and trying to reconstitute the board posed some challenges, probably because currently the task is more demanding than in the past.
I wish to remind our readers, on behalf of the SIOI president Giuseppe Marzo, the forthcoming SIOI Congress, that will take place in Rome in November 22-23.
Among the topics treated in the present issue is the relationship between obesity and oral health. Obesity is a modern disease that affects adults and children. We chose this as the main topic with articles from Italy as well as overseas, after having published several papers on the same topic in the past (12,2:112-116, 13,2:128- 132).
The published articles deal with obesity and dental caries, tooth eruption, periodontal disease and hormonal disorders. Moreover, we publish the sencond paper on biofilm formation and adhesion to orthodontic brackets. This issue also contains articles on other subjects that we hope will be interesting for our readers.
