Abstract: This is the last issue under Giuseppe Marzo presidential mandate of the SIOI, which will end on December 31st, just after the forthcoming SIOI national congress in Rome. I am pleased to announce that under his mandate memberships reached to over one thousand members.
The new SIOI president, starting January 1st 2014, will be Raffaella Docimo.
The central theme of the current issue is child’s behaviour, one of the most important components in the management of paediatric dental treatment, with papers on child psychology, anxiety and fear — even in cooperative children — with suggestions about the first visit and techniques such as camouflage of the syringe; there are also papers on fear and anxiety complicated by other systemic diseases such as haemophilia.
In addition, this issue contains articles about orthodontic epidemiology and sealants.
We try to publish multiple authors’ perspectives on topics supported by different studies, so you can read different results on oral habits in Portugal and Albania: here, the frequency of oral habits appears much more widespread than in Portugal. It would be interesting if in the future both authors deepened and clarified their research and justify their results.
An article from China studied the effect of chewing-gums in vivo.
A case report shows the relationship between oral health and leukemia, while another illustrates fibromatosis of the jaw in a child.
All articles published in this issue are shorter than 6 pages. We remind the authors to submit short papers to reduce the waiting list and allow for a greater number of articles to be published.
